Foam cubes for germinating seed, transplanted whole into the system or into soil.
Seed is germinated in the cube and the whole cube is moved into the system, so the young root is never pulled out of one medium and pushed into another. That transplant is where most propagation losses happen, and not doing it is the entire point.
The foam holds a consistent air-to-water ratio, which is what small seed needs and what a tray of loose medium is bad at. Cubes separate cleanly from one another, and a rooted cube goes into an NFT channel, a deep water system, an aquaponic bed or ordinary soil without any change of plan.
