Coco Peat Grow Slab

Compressed coconut-fibre slabs, the usual medium for trough and bucket-grown vine crops.

Coco peat is coconut husk fibre, compressed into a slab that is wetted and expanded in place. It holds considerably more water than clay pebbles while still draining, which suits a crop that is in the ground for months rather than weeks.

Unlike clay it is a consumable: a slab is replaced at the end of a crop rather than washed and reused. That is a running cost to put in the plan from the start, and it is one of the numbers worth working through before choosing between a trough and a bucket line.
